Yoga Nidra, sometimes referred to as Non-Sleep Deep Rest, is a rest-based mediation journey through the five energetic bodies, or Koshas, according to Yogic philosophy, into the deepest center of ourselves where our true nature is experienced. Occupying the liminal space between sleep and wakefulness, Yoga Nidra gently guides you as you wade deeper and deeper into the waters of your own consciousness. Typically practiced laying down in a supported pose, such as Savasana, your body remains still so that your awareness is free to expand exponentially and illuminate your inner landscape. Studies have shown that Yoga Nidra can improve cognitive function, increase neuroplasticity, decrease stress and anxiety, and mimic sleep-like brain wave patterns that induce deeply restful states, improving sleep quality with consistent practice.
This class will begin with 15 minutes of gentle movement followed by 60 minutes of yoga nidra, led by Stephanie Brown, and healing sound, led by Sarah Huffman.
